(Actually, that is precisely how I learnt the majority of my English, and that's how I picked a lot of bad English, too. Still, the positives vastly outweigh the negatives, of course.)
Another tip I can offer you is you need to consistently work on bettering your language. Just listening a lot and speaking a lot is not enough to acquire great English - what if you are listening to a person who is making Grammatical mistakes whenever he speaks English, and you are not even aware that he is making these mistakes? Don't worry - I'll tell you what will happen - you will learn his bad habits, and you will start speaking the same kind of bad English he does.
You should also read lots of English books. I told you at the start of my post that I was against reading a lot of odd textbooks, but that is the advice I only give to those who are not having a lot of spoken English practice to begin with. If you are already trying to speak English every day, then you will at one time of your life face the challenge of finding the right kinds of words to say, and that's when reading a lot of books will help you.
